Two H5N8 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks occurred in Hungary

According to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), on January 11, 2021, the Food Chain Safety Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary notified OIE that two H5N8 highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks occurred in Hungary.

Laboratory tests revealed that 84,572 poultry were suspected of being infected, of which 150 died, and 84,422 were killed and disposed of.

The outbreak occurred in Ouze, Gers, France and was confirmed on January 8, 2021. The source of the epidemic is unknown or uncertain. Laboratory tests revealed that 1173 poultry were suspected of being infected, and all were killed and disposed of.
